REFRIGERANTES ARCO IRIS,
founded over 40 years ago, is a market leader in the guaraná segment.
Its
industrial plant holds hundreds of employees and is also self-sufficient
in the manufacturing of plastic PET bottles.
The Arco Íris trademark is daring and innovative, with
a mix of over 50 products, distributed to Northwestern São
Paulo State and the States of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do
Sul and Goiás.
History: The Company started its activities
on July 1st, 1958, under the corporate name Mattos & Cia,
established in the town of Tanabi-SP, and with Mr. Mário
de Mattos as a major shareholder. Mattos & Mattos manufactured
soda of the Cotuba and Guri (lemon soda) brands, as well as
sugarcane spirits with the Arara brand.
In 1969 the company purchased a lot in the city of São
José do Rio Preto and was the pioneer in the city’s
recently-opened Industrial District, thus having the honor
of receiving the award of greatest industrial enterprise in
1972, granted a the Business and Industrial Association of
São José do Rio Preto (ACIRP).
The new plant began its activities in 1972, manufacturing exclusively
soda (Cotuba and other flavors), while the plant in Tanabi
carried on the liquor manufacturing. In this same year, Mattos & Cia
purchased the factory holding the Arco Íris brand
in the city of São José do Rio Preto, State
of São Paulo, and the soda began to be manufactured
in the new plant.
The headquarters has been the city of São José do
Rio Preto, State of São Paulo since 1974, and the plant
in Tanabi, State of São Paulo, has been the branch since
then.
On May 10, 1976, the corporate name was changed to Refrigerantes
Arco Iris Ltda.
In 1978 the company enlarged its industrial plant, threefolding
its technical and production capacity and beginning the bottling
of soda under the Brahma trademark, a partnership that lasted
until 1993.
A very important fact has been the technological advance occurred
in 1983, which was the personalization of the glass bottles
for exclusive use. This strategy has shown that the company
is concerned about making a difference among its consumers.
The personalized bottles were a powerful marketing tool,
and turned Arco Íris into one of few national soda
manufacturers competing with multinationals. Not even Companhia
Antárctica (leading soda manufacturer and brewery
in the country) had its own soda bottles. This innovation
has been deemed bold and has undoubtedly solidified the tradition
and leadership marks that Arco Íris has had in the
market until these days.
In 1985, Cisper – São Paulo and Rio Industrial
Company – leader in specialization of bottles, brought
to the Brazilian market the concept of pre-labeled ONE WAY
glass bottles (nonreturnable). Arco Íris was the only
regional company in Brazil, along with Coca-Cola, Antárctica
and Brahma, invited by Cisper to launch a partnership with
this new bottle. The aforementioned great trademarks refused
the invitation, except for Arco Íris. Therefore, it
was the first to launch the product: pre-labeled disposable
glass bottle.
In 1988, Arco Íris was chosen as the only regional
company with the ability and technical conditions to bottle
the Schweppes tonic water. The international acknowledgement
of the Arco Íris quality was then made clear. This partnership
lasted until 1993.
With the introduction of the plastic PET bottles (disposable)
in the soda market, in 1996, Arco Íris set up a modern
industry of PET bottles of its own, with Japanese state-of-the-art
technology.
The Arco Íris plastic PET bottles have been designed
and developed by a company specialized in industrial design
of packages, and has been the second Brazilian company to adopt
the exclusive design for its brand. This project was completed
in Japan by specialized technicians.
This investment has conferred the “Embanews 97 Brazilian
Award” of best and most modern soda packing, including
the technical-productive process.
In the same year, Cotuba reached Japan to cater to the Japanese-descendent
Brazilian market. It has currently conquered the Japanese
taste.
Therefore, Arco Íris has been daily writing history.
A bold company continuously investing in the quality and innovation
of its products, without losing focus on the client, and extremely
prepared to a more and more demanding market.
